Madrid-Spain′s government praised the high level of immunisation among people and the epidemiological favorable situated and announced to drop a requirement to wear face masks indoors, except in health centres, hospitals, retirement homes, and on public transport, from April 20 due to declining Covid-19 infections.

The country made wearing a mask outside mandatory in May 2020, but it was withdrawn in June of last year. Covid cases exploded because of the extremely contagious Omicron strain, therefore the measure was reinstated soon before Christmas. People with mild symptoms of Covid-19 were no longer required to self-isolate last month in Spain, as part of a move toward treating the virus as an endemic infection like flu. It has also stopped testing people who had symptoms or were in close proximity to someone who was infected. Vulnerable persons including those over the age of 60, caretakers, pregnant women, and those who were immunocompromised were currently being tested.

Spain accounted for the world’s highest vaccination rate. About 92.4 percent of those over the age of 12 were fully immunized against the virus. Covid-19 has claimed the lives of 102,747 people in the country thus far.
